Thanks, Peter. Excellent analysis.

"I know at least one party in the Coalition government is utterly fed up with RNZ’s editorial direction and attitude towards their people... [but] there’s no political appetite for change from other branches of the Coalition."

I think alongside that is the Broadcasting Act forbids ministers from offering any criticism or advice about RNZ's editorial policy. The only ways a govt might change RNZ's stance is by appointing less-partisan board members (which can't easily happen for a while) or by cutting its funding. (Labour lavished $25m on it before it lost office so any cuts would have to be savage to make it worried about its editorial policy.)

You're dead right about the PIJF destroying trust but no prominent journalist or editor will admit that. Fortunately, Jim Grenon makes that link explicit. He asked Michael Wood, as head of E Tu: "Do you believe that editorial independence can be impacted by government grants with conditions?... A classic example of this is the Public Interest Journalism Fund, created under the Labour government when you were a minister, and which required support for a certain interpretation of the Treaty."

Grenon says what many NZers know to be true but our legacy media won't admit.

Right on target Peter, thanks. Journalism continues to find new lows, clearly agenda driven by woke editorial directives. We also need a survey of trust in academics such as your chap Jutel. Or Baker. Or Wiles. Or so very many of the lefty dipshits paraded as ‘expert opinions’ by said lefty media. Heaping bias upon bias ain’t a great recipe for balanced review, that’s for damn sure. Oh, and then we get to the legal profession…. Bunch of goofbag KCs imagining their anti-democracy self-serving opinions matter more than the rest of us. Oh, and let’s not forget the Judges. An activist Supreme Court & many below them making up shit like tikanga as law. Oh & oops, I forgot the Police, currently being taken to task by the FSU for backtracking on their ‘hate speech’ nonsense.

Jeepers! Who can we trust these days???? Apologies for those I’ve forgotten on my list!
