and with current discovered reserves, at that rate of consumption(103.8 mill) . The world has 47 years worth of oil left.

Sounds like a socialist feeding frenzy based on ego, guilt and completely non-sensical ideology.

Throw in the large amounts of money, and it all makes perfect sense.

A bit like NZs social and ethnic victim culture money grab, on steroids.

Why must critical comment like this only come from the general public? Where is the news media, (with the exception of the Australian) and why are our politicians silent? Does the UN have a stranglehold on them?

Thanks for this article Peter. The NZ delegation is interesting - its size for one thing and the number of Greens present for another. Lets face it, folks like Chloe Swarbrick are on the Government junket bandwagon irrespective of emmissions. The hypocrisy is rank

There's nothing so much fun as spending other folks money... that's why so many attend.

Neither of the two major (China and India) carbon users (and polluters) have any intention of paying or stopping using the cheapest, best and most reliable forms of energy: coal; gas and oil!

If there’s a tax payer (and to a lesser extent share holder) funded junket on offer then the troughers will flock, happily undermining their own credibility by their acrobatic rationalisation for the need for them to attend. There’s nothing like a freebie trip, conference, course etc. even if the benefit to your benefactors is highly dubious.

I don’t think we’ll see a COP35 - in recent times the public’s enthusiasm to blindly accept the mantra of the eco warriors appears to be waning with petrol chemical companies reading the shifting winds and now bold enough to publicly wind back their “Green Initiatives”

Mind you, there will always be another bandwagon for the Left to jump on and develop an new, junket friendly “industry” around.

The climate change Conference of the Parties is like numerous other UN talkfests. It allows for career diplomats and hangers on to travel the world and feel important. The move by the ICC to rule against Netanyahu may help hasten the collapse of useless UN structures, like this one. Climate COPs are for the brainwashed and developing nations will continue to push a "poor me" narrative. Expect this to continue for some years yet.

Have you met Peter Morgan of Auckland? He has research from UK, US and Germany whchi shows Co2 has a sixth of the effect on climate that the IPCC states, and methane 250 times less effect. These fairly recent findings by respected emeritus professors have been offered to the IPCC and have never been challenged. If you give me your email address I will send you the document. <pwood@xtra.co.nz>

And who will be accountable for how all this money is spent?

I was an over flow delegate but had to pay my own way so didn’t bother going.

Why were you going?

I wanted to see first hand how the deals were negotiated. I am aware that the 'gavel' has come down previously whilst delegates have still been protesting on the language. I wanted to see first hand how useful the process is and what my Gov't was giving away and whether it was in the national interest.

Very useful analysis, much better than the uniformly similar messaging coming from legacy media. I've always been a bit confused by why NZ is considered a 'global north' nation in the first place. Being in the OECD makes sense, as we are a developed nation, but we have a very small economy relative to the other 'global north' nations and many 'global south' nations have substantially larger economies.
