Agree totally re Grenfell.

But when you are on a salary that matches the Prime Minister, Grenfell will be holding on for dear life, no matter how many investigations show that he was negligent in ignoring.

Mt Maunganui has been under co - governance with the local Wii for decades.

Typical of Maori they insisted that all exotic trees be cut down on the Mountain as they were offended by them being on “ sacred ground.”

The flaccid council immediately complied despite knowing that the exotic trees held the earth in place - as they had done for decades.

Not only should the CEO be held to account but also the administration of the co - governance board.

But that will never happen as it would be regarded as racist in holding Maori to account - for anything !

Systemic failure is the term used so that attributing blame or responsibility to any one person can be avoided. It is a means of acknowledging fault but without attribution. The days of “the buck stops here” on the desk of a CEO are long gone. And of course systemic failure means that contributory actions from the co-governance folks need not be factored in.

All of that ignores the fact that the maunga was restless and took matters into its own hands.
